SANTA CRUZ, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team completed the 76
th Western Intercollegiate with a 13
th place finish following Wednesday's final round at the Pasatiempo Golf Club.
The Rainbow Warriors finished with a 1,096 total after a final round 379 and was three strokes behind No. 33 Washington in the team standings. Pepperdine captured the championship with a 1,034 total while the Waves' Derek Hitchner took medalist honors at 7-under 203.
UH's top finisher was
Blaze Akana, who tied for 31
st at 6-over 216. The Honolulu native entered the day tied for 12
th after a sizzling 67 on Tuesday but struggled with a final round 8-over 78.
Remington Hirano finished two strokes back at 8-over 218 after posting 75 to finish in a tie for 42
nd place.
Atsuya Oishi recorded the best round of the day for the 'Bows with a 4-over 74 to finish tied for 58
th at 221.
Tyler Ogawa and
Josh Hayashida tied for 62
nd at 222 after rounds of 75 and 77, respectively.
Zachary Sagayaga tied for 88
th at 235.
UH will next compete in the PING Cougar Classic, April 21-22 before closing out the regular season with the Big West Championship, April 30-May 2 in La Quinta, Calif.
