BeachBows Pair Earns Big West Weekly Honors

IRVINE, Calif. – University of Hawai'i beach volleyball players Chandler Cowell and Sydney Miller were named the Big West Pairs Team of the Week after a stellar showing in the Best in the West tournament in Laguna Beach this past weekend. It's the first career weekly honor for the pair.

The senior Cowell (Kula, Maui) and freshman Miller (San Diego, Calif.) enjoyed an unblemished record at the No. 5 court as UH swept four matches against Big West rivals Cal Poly and No. 14 Long Beach State. The duo were the only pair all weekend to go undefeated during the double round-robin tournament. They clinched the winning point in UH's narrow 3-2 win over Cal Poly on the first day and proved vital in a pair of tight 3-2 wins over LBSU, including a straight set win on Sunday's final match of the tournament. The tandem improved to perfect 5-0 on the year.

The ninth-ranked BeachBows (7-3), winners of five straight dual matches, return home to play in their second home tournament of the season when they host the Heineken Queen's Cup, March 10-12, at Queen's Beach. UH will take on Oregon, Nebraska, Texas and nationally-ranked squads California and Washington over the course of the three-day tournament.
