PALM DESERT, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team moved up one spot into fifth place after Thursday's second round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate at the Classic Club.
The Rainbow Warriors shot a 1-under 287 – the fourth lowest on the day among the 16-team field – to move to 4-over 580 for the tournament. UH is 11 strokes off the lead held by host Wyoming (569), who has a six-stroke lead over Utah.
Hawai'i has the best score among the six Big West teams in the field. Cal State Fullerton is five strokes behind UH in sixth place at 585.
Josh Hayashida and
Blaze Akana each carded 1-under 71 and are tied for 19
th place at 1-over 145. One stroke behind them are
Tyler Ogawa and
Atsuya Oishi, who sit in a tie for 26
th place.
Remington Hirano shot even par on Thursday and is tied for 46
th at 6-over 150.
Fresno State's Matthew Manganello and Cal State Fullerton's Harry Doig share the individual lead at 6-under 138.
The tournament concludes on Friday with an 8:00 a.m. PT shotgun start.
