HONOLULU  – The  10th-ranked University of Hawai'i beach volleyball team completed round-robin action of the Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic Friday at Queen's Beach by splitting a pair of matches. UH swept Stephen F. Austin, 5-0, before falling to top-ranked UCLA 4-1 in a competitive matchup.
 
For the second straight day, the teams played through windy conditions and small pockets of rain. In the first-ever meeting between UH and Stephen F. Austin, the BeachBows were able to gain its second shutout in its first three matches of the season. The 'Bows earned straight set wins on four of five courts to complete the sweep. In the one court that went the distance, Kaylee Glagau and Caprice Lorenzo out-raced Lizzie Denyer andOlivia Duhon (SFA) 24-22, 19-21, 15-8. The duos duked it out for the first two sets, before Glagau and Lorenzo put on the accelerator in the third and deciding set. 

In UH's second match, the 'Bows fell to top-ranked UCLA in a game closer than the final score indicated. UH trailed 2-1 in the dual match with the 'Bows point coming via a 21-15, 21-18 straight set win by Brooke Van Sickle and Kaylee Glagau over Abby Van Winkle and Jessie Smith at the No. 2 court. 

UH put themselves in position for the upset with the final two courts going to a third set. UCLA, however clinched the match as Rileigh Powers and Natalie Myszkowski outlasted Ilihia Huddleston and Sophie Buschmann 21-17, 19-21, 15-13 at the No. 5 court. In the final result of the day, a pair of UH freshman in Lorenzo and Sarah Burton acquitted themselves well before falling 29-31, 21-13, 15-6 in a battle with Jaden Whitmarsh and Marlie Monserez on Court 4. 
  
The Outrigger Duke Kahanamoku Beach Classic concludes on Saturday with championship bracket play. UH will be slotted in the 10:15 a.m. semifinal match versus Stanford. The championship match of the tournament is slated for 2 p.m.
