Rainbow Sailors Wrap Up Competition In The Bay Area

REDWOOD CITY, Calif. -- Both the coed and women's squads for University of Hawaii sailing were in action this weekend in the Bay Area in a pair of regattas hosted by Stanford. The coed squad finished third in the PCCSC Top Nine Open, while Rainbow Wahine were runner-up in the Bryson Women's Fleet Race.

Light winds greeted the sailors on Saturday. A total of 12 races - six in each A and B divisions were completed over the weekend for the PCCSC Top 9. UC Santa Barbra took home the regatta with a low of 39 points, followed by host Stanford with 54. UH finished with 70 points. Owen Lahr and Frances Tarpey-Schwed sailed in the A division while Bastien Rasse and Kelsie Grant competed in the B division. Rasse and Grant ended the weekend on a high note by winning the final race of the weekend.

In the women's regatta, UH finished in second out of eight schools competing with a total of 57 points. Host Stanford ran away with a regatta-low 37 points, claiming first-place in four of seven races. The Rainbow Wahine were represented by Vivian Bonsager and Sophia Shaeffer in the A division and Mercy Tangredi and Taylor Ledgerwood in the B division.

The UH coed team will be back on the waters the weekend of March 10 in Southern California when they participate in the prestigious LA Harbor Cup. The Rainbow Wahine next sail in the St Francis International March 11-12 in San Francisco.
