HONOLULU – For the third time this season,
Laticia Transom took home MPSF Female Athlete of the Week honors after contributing to a pair of school relay records and six wins at the UNLV Quad Meet on Friday and Saturday.
Transom swam the opening legs of both the 200 free relay and 200 medley relay, helping the Wahine set program records in both events. She began the 200 free relay with a 22.39 to help UH break the record they set earlier this year with a 1:29.53, before starting the 200 medley relay with a 24.29 in the backstroke to set the pace for a time of 1:37.71 making it the third different relay record the Wahine have broken this year.
The fifth-year transfer also helped the Rainbow Wahine claim victories in the 400 medley relay and the 400 free relay while picking up individual wins in the 100 and 200 free. Transom opened the 400 medley relay with a 52.31 in the backstroke to set the pace for a 3:36.46 before swimming a 50.56 on leg two of the 400 free relay, helping UH win the event by nearly eight seconds with a 3:16.83. She also took home comfortable wins in the 100 and 200 free, swimming a 48.86 in the 100 free before clocking a 1:45.25 in the 200 to win by over five seconds.
Transom has turned in one of the best seasons in school history heading into the MPSF Championships, sitting in the top five in program history in five different events (50, 100, 200 free, 100 fly, 100 back) while also owning NCAA B cut times in each of those. She also holds the top times in the MPSF in those five individual events while contributing to conference-leading marks in each of the relays.
It's also the fifth time this year that a Hawai'i male or female swimmer has taken home MPSF Athlete of the Week honors, as
Mandolin Nguyen and Mario Surkovic have each earned the recognition once in addition to Transom winning three times.
