LAS VEGAS — The University of Hawai'i swimming teams picked up relay wins to bookend the evening session of Sunday's competition in the UNLV Invitational in Las Vegas.
The day began with preliminaries and IJH opened the finals session with a victory in the women's 200-yard freestyle relay. The Rainbow Wahine team of
Holly Nelson (23.35),
Gabrielle Scudamore (23.32),
Anna Friedrich (22.84) and
Mira Selling (22.98) finished with a time of 1 minute, 32.49 seconds to edge UNLV.
The Rainbow Warriors capped the day by winning the men's 400 medley relay with
Timothy Gallagher,
Justin Lisoway,
Grant Stoddard and
Mario Surkovic posting a time of 3:11.43.
In between the UH victories, the men's 200 free relay team of Surkovic,
Jakub Ksiazek,
Jordan Meacham, and Stoddard finished second, just behind UNLV, with a time of 1:19.00.
Indiviually, Surkovic also placed second in the men's 200 IM at 1:45.90, and Meacham was second in the 50 free at 20.32.
Selling finished in a tie for second in the 50 free at 23.46 and freshman
Zofia Tyminska placed third in the 200 IM at 2:01.46.
Diving preliminaries also began on Sunday and
Isabelle Lombardi was third in the women's 1-meter with a score of 260.30 and
Elma Lund (seventh, 224.80) and
Ruby Pickron (eighth, 207.50) also qualified for the finals.
Senior
Mackaby Pennington was second in men's 3-meter qualifying at 304.60 and
Juan Gonzalez was fourth at 293.45.
UH enters Monday's events at UNLV's Jim Reitz Pool second in the men's and women's team standings, trailing the host Rebels in both. The Rainbow Wahine ended Sunday with 277.50 points while UNLV had 358.50. The Rainbow Warriors posted 238 points to UNLV's 340.
