Men's Tennis Opens UH-UHH-HPU Invitational

HONOLULU–The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team hosted Day 1 of the UH-UHH-HPU Invitational on Saturday, Nov. 4 at the UH Tennis Complex. The Rainbow Warriors won two of their doubles matches and five singles matches.

Hawai'i's doubles team of Andrew Somerville and Sohta Urano defeated UH-Hilo's Luca Matheiouwetz and Cian Mcdonanell, 6-2. UH's Guillaume and Cole Kurata combined to defeat the Vulcans' Agustin Gentile and Jeffrey by a break, 7-5 and the duo of Andy Hernandez and Quinn Snyder held off Hawai'i Pacific's Lennard Richter and Riku Ogasawara in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (3).

In Round 1 of singles, UH-Manoa's Snyder defeated HPU's Ogasawara in straight sets, 7-6 (4), 6-2. Hawai'i's Hernandez swept Hilo's Lamar Bartley, 6-3, 6-3. Andrew Somerville won the second set to force a third set super tiebreaker but fell to Hilo's Filippo Di Perma, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (5).

Both Snyder and Hernandez also won their second round matches too. After falling in the first set, UH's Snyder came back to defeat Hilo's Ryo Minakata in a third set super tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-3, 1-0 (8) while Hernandez knocked off HPU's Richter, 6-4, 6-2. The 'Bows' Tattevin doubled up on HPU's Jim Walder in the first set and tossed a shutout in the second, 6-3, 6-0.

The three teams will face off against each other on Sunday, Nov. 5 for the second day of the UH-UHH-HPU Invitational at the UH Tennis Complex.
