BAKERSFIELD, Calif. >> The University of Hawai'i women's soccer team struck early and late in a 2-0 win over CSU Bakersfield in a Big West match on Thursday at CSUB's Main Soccer Field in Bakersfield, Calif.
UH junior
Brynn Mitchell set up the first goal of the match — a header by freshman
Izzy Ayala in the fourth minute — and scored the second off an assist from

nd minute and the Rainbow Wahine posted their first shutout and first road win of the season.

Rainbow Wahine goalkeeper
Sophie Augustin finished with four saves in her first clean sheet with the program and UH's first shutout since a 1-0 win at CSUN on Oct. 6, 2022, which also marked the team's last road win prior to Thursday.
UH converted on an early opportunity when Mitchell lofted a corner kick to the far post where Ayala was waiting to score on a header for her second goal of the season. The assist was Mitchell's first with the 'Bows .
The 'Bows weathered some close calls later in the half with CSUB shots banging off a post or crossbar and UH took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
UH protected the lead and added to it when Mitchell took a pass from Sheahan down the right side, got behind the defense and punched in her third goal of the season. Sheahan was credited with her team-high fourth assist.
The Rainbow Wahine close the road trip on Sunday at UC Davis. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. Pacific (10 a.m. Hawai'i time) in Davis, Calif.
