The new-look UH squad has gotten big performances from its newcomers throughout the first half of the year. The top six 5k times and the top five 6k marks by Rainbow Wahine this year have all come courtesy of newcomers while true freshmen have made up the top four Hawai'i finishers in three of the four meets this season.
Hawai'i is coming off of yet another strong showing, this time at the Charles Bowles Invitational in Oregon. All eight Rainbow Wahine set new PRs in the meet, led by freshman
Emilie Kirk Langschwager who ran the fourth-fastest time in a 5k in program history with a mark of 17:27.00 to finish seventh. The native of Denmark posted the fastest time by a UH runner since 2010 and is just the fifth runner in program history to run a 5k in under 17:30.
UH, which finished fourth as a team at the Charles Bowles Invitational, had its runners post the top seven 5k times of the season and eight of the top 10. For the third time this year, a trio of true freshmen once again followed close behind Kirk Langschwager with
Jessica Duran running an 18:11.60 to finish 21st while
Zola O'Donnell came in 25th with a 18:20.20 and
Abby Crossley clocked a 18:46.10 to place 43rd.
Following the HPU Invitational the Rainbow Wahine will travel to compete in the Bronco Invitational in Sunnyvale, Calif.
