HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team concluded the five-day UH Ānuenue Invitational on Friday, Oct. 13 at the UH Tennis Complex. Over the five days of competition, the Rainbow Wahine won 13 of 14 doubles matches while going 23-5 in singles.
On Friday, Hawai'i swept its three doubles matches while winning four of six completed. In doubles, UH's
Anna Kern and
Joelle Lanz led off the day firing a shut out over HPU's Leonie Muller and Lynn Kader, 6-0. The duo of
Ana Vilcek and
Sheena Masuda doubled up on HPU's Jayanne Palma and Vera Markovic, 6-3. Hawai'i's
Nelly Knezkova and Homolkova held off Abi Wild and Sara Hejmankova by a break, 6-4.
In singles, after Lanz's first opponent retired in the middle of the first set, Lanz nearly blanked HPU's Kader, 6-1, 6-0. UH's Knezkova downed HPU's Wild in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4 while Kern battled back and finished strong to defeat Markovic in three, 7-5, 3-6, 6-2. In an intrasquad match, Vilcek defeated Homolkova, 6-0, 6-2.
Members of the women's tennis team will head to San Diego next week to compete in the ITA Regional.
