LAS VEGAS – The Hawai'i men's and women's swimming and diving teams wrapped up competition at UNLV Saturday, getting yet another record performance from a Rainbow Wahine relay team to highlight the final tune-up before the MPSF Championships.
The Rainbow Wahine kicked off the day by setting their third different relay school record this season, as the squad of
Laticia Transom,
Mandolin Nguyen,
Holly Nelson and Gabby Scudamore broke the UH 200 medley relay record. Transom opened with a 24.29 in the backstroke, followed by a 27.43 from Nguyen in breaststroke before Nelson swam a 23.68 in the fly and Scudamore anchored with a 22.31 in freestyle.
The Wahine picked up five more wins throughout the day, with Nelson taking the 50 free in 23.03 before
Dorottya Dobos won the 200 back in 1:58.75. UH then got a pair of big swims to make NCAA B cut times in the 200 breaststroke, as Nguyen took the victory in 2:13.12 while
Kathryn Ivanov came in with a 2:13.61 to finish second and move into sixth place on UH's top 10 list. The Rainbow Wahine then went 1-2 in the 200 free with Transom winning with a 1:45.25 and
Cass Treydte coming in second with a 1:50.74. The Rainbow Wahine closed the day with a victory in the 400 free relay in 3:16.83.
The Rainbow Warriors also started off the day strong in the 200 medley relay, with the team of
Justin Lisoway,
Tomer Goldfaden,
Jordan Meacham and
Mario Surkovic swimming a season-best 1:27.87 to come in second.
The Hawai'i swimming and diving programs will next head to the MPSF Championships, Feb. 15-18 in St. George, Utah.
