HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i, track and field team returns to action for the first time in 2023 with the MLK Invitational in Albuquerque, hosted by the University of New Mexico at the Albuquerque Convention Center.
Saturday's meet will be the first time UH has visited UNM for an indoor event since 2020 with the New Mexico Collegiate Classic. Three years ago, UH saw the 600-meter record get broken in the meet by
Teuila Gardner, a formula the Rainbow Wahine will strive to do this season coming off an impressive meet to end 2022 with the Spokane Invitational, nearly six weeks ago.
In early December, junior
Alyssa Mae Antolin made a statement as she broke the UH 200-meter indoor record and claimed the No. 2 spot for the 60-meter dash in the UH record book. After a solid start to the season, Antolin will have the opportunity to build on her success as she is scheduled to compete in multiple events. Joining her as another headliner for the 'Bows will be sophomore
Lilian Turban, as she took first place in the high jump in Spokane with a personal best of 5-10.75 (1.80).
Turban will compete against 30 other athletes in the high jump event at 8 a.m. MT and Antolin will have the same task of an early start as the unseeded portion of the 200-meter will take place at approximately 9:30 a.m. HT.
Graduate transfer
Victoria Solheim will have her second go-around after her debut in Spokane as she placed in the top five of both the weight throw and shot put. Each of the two events will mirror the same as Antolin's and Turban's schedules with early start times.
Events will begin at 9 a.m. MT on Saturday and will conclude at 4 p.m. MT. Events will be featured and shown live on FloTrack.org with a paid subscription.
