LEXINGTON, Ky. – One day after winning the Big West Player of the Week award, University of Hawai'i outside hitter Spyros Chakas was named the AVCA National Player of the Week after his impressive performance in last week's series sweep of Ball State.
 
Chakas, a junior from Nea Smyrni, Greece, led the team in kills in both matches against the Cardinals with 19 in the opener and 22 in the rematch. He averaged 5.13 kills per set for the series and hit .485. Currently, the outside hitter ranks No. 2 nationally in kills per set and No. 9 in hitting percentage.
 
Chakas' 22 kills is tied for the fourth-most in a match this season and marks the second time he eclipsed 20 kills in his career.
 
The award is Chakas' first of his career and first by a Rainbow Warrior this season. Last season, two Rainbow Warriors earned the national weekly award – Jakob Thelle and Dimitrios Mouchlias.
