Hawai‘i Paces to a Big Wave Invitational Win

KAHUKU, O'AHU—The University of Hawai'i cross country team began the 2022 schedule with a team win on Saturday morning with the Big Wave Invitational at Kahuku Golf Course.

The Rainbow Wahine finished one, two, and three in the meet as the team scored 19 points against five other programs and 21 points lower than second place Pacific.

For the first time in her cross country career, senior Caelan Miller placed first overall in a meet, crossing the finish line at 19:00.3. A year ago, the Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania native finished in fourth place with a time of 19:53.92 in the same event.

Last year's Big Wave Invitational winner, senior Sophia Morgan, came in second place with a time of 19:19.6. While freshman Keilah Wilkes came in at 19:35.7 for a third-place finish in her first career collegiate meet.

"Today was a good day for us," said head coach Tim Boyce. "The first meet of a season is always difficult, but we know it's setting the pace for the season, so we know what we need to work on. But today went as well as I could have hoped for. We're all very happy with how today went."

UH will now re-group and look toward the future. Next up on the schedule is the UC Riverside Invitational, as it will give the 'Bows a glimpse into how they'll match up against Big West foes.
