Rainbow Sailors Start Season At PCCSC Singlehanded Championships

SANTA BARBARA, Calif.–  University of Hawai'i sailing hit the waters for the first time in the 2022-23 season with the PCCSC Men's and Women's Singlehanded Championships this past weekend.
  
Competing in his third singlehanded championship in the last four years, Bastien Rasse recorded a third-place finish with 26 points. A total of nine races were competed with Rasse finishing in the top three in each of them. Stanford's Chapman Peterson dominated the eight-person field by winning all but one of the races and finishing with 10 points.  
 
Mercy Tangredi represented UH on the women's side and also finished in third place with 28 points. Stanford's Hallie Schiffman  breezed past the competition by winning every race and totaling a regatta-low nine points. Both Peterson and Schiffman qualified for the ICSA Singlehanded Nationals to be held later this fall. 

Both the coed and women's teams will  next head East for the Atlantic Coast Championships. The Rainbow Wahine will compete on Oct. 1-2 in New England, while the coed team heads to King's Point, N.Y., Oct. 8-9.
