University of Hawai'i junior setter Jakob Thelle became just the fifth player in program history to be named to the CoSIDA Academic All-America team.
 
The Tonsberg, Norway native, who last month was named to the Academic All-District 8 team, is also the fourth Rainbow Warrior to be selected to the first team joining Dejan Miladinovic (2002), Costas Theocharidis (2003), and Jonas Umlauft (2011).
 
The Global Environmental Sciences major received his bachelor's degree last month, graduating with a 3.74 grade point average. Thelle was the only men's volleyball player among the 15 members of the first team and was one of three players representing District 8 along with Stanford's Axel Geller (tennis) and Arizona State's Grant House (swimming).

In his second year as the team's starting setter, Thelle helped the Rainbow Warriors repeat as national champions. He was named to the AVCA All-America first team and was the Big West's Player of the Year.
 
The at-large category consists of a number of sports including men's volleyball, beach volleyball, golf, tennis, swimming & diving, and water polo among others. A total of 47 student-athletes were named to the Division I first-, second-, and third-teams. Louisville's Nick Albiero was named the Team Member of the Year.
