Rainbow Wahine Sailors Place 16th In National Semifinals

NEW ORLEANS, La.  – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine sailing team concluded its 2021-22 campaign by finishing in 16th place in the ICSA Women's National Semifinals.

The Rainbow Wahine made its 19th all-time appearance on the national stage and first since 2018. UH looked to crack the finals for the first time in a decade but fell short of the top-nine semifinal finish needed to advance to the final two days of competition.

The 'Bows were 16th after the first day of competition and remained there for the duration of the semifinals. The teams were greeted Tuesday with some stronger gusts on Lake Pontchartrain as UH finished with 366 total points. Harvard place first in the Western semifinal bracket with a low of 144 with PCCSC champion Stanford finishing just two points behind.

Sailing for the Rainbows were Mercy Tangredi and Kelsie Grant in the A Division while Vivian Bonsager, Morgan Carew and Anna Kalabukhova competed in the B division.  The A team finished with 190 points while the B team tallied 176 points for the regatta.

It was a strong year for the Rainbow Wahine who endured two consecutive COVID-shortened seasons before returning to a full slate this year, highlighted by a pair of regatta trophies.
