Rainbow Wahine Sailors In 16th After Day One of National Semis

NEW ORLEANS, La.  – The University of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine sailing team completed its first day of competition at the 2022 ICSA Women's National Championship in 16th place in the Western Semifinals.

A total of 36 schools, divided into two 18-team regattas, competed in overcast conditions on Lake Pontchartrain. The race committee was able to get off eight races in the A  division and six in the B division for 14 total.

The Rainbow Wahine look to finish in the top nine of its semifinals bracket in order to advance to the two-day finals beginning on Wednesday. However like the coed team last week, UH will need to make up some heavy ground to make the cut after the first day of sailing.  The Rainbow Wahine have 198 points and are currently 79 points from the ninth spot.

Sailing for the Rainbows were Mercy Tangredi and Kelsie Grant in the A Division while Vivian Bonsager and Anna Kalabukhova competed in the B division.  The A team finished with 110 points after one day of sailing, placing 16th place in its division. The B team, meanwhile,  tallied 88 points, and stand in 17th in its division.

Fans can follow Tuesday's action via ICSA live scoring or the ICSA YouTube page.
