Box Score HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (9-7, 6-2 Big West) returned to the friendly confines of the UH Tennis Complex after a tough roadtrip to record it's sixth-consecutive sweep at home with a 7-0 win over UC Irvine (8-11, 1-4 Big West). It was not an easy sweep for the Rainbow Wahine as they captured the doubles point 2-1 and three of the singles matches went into the third set on Saturday afternoon.

Hawai'i's line up was shuffled around due to an injury. A new doubles partnership with UH's Anna Kern and Satsuki Takamura worked well as they defeated UC Irvine's Dasee Carter and Emily Fowloer on the No. 3 court, 6-2. UCI then evened things with No. 1 Jessica Tsukiji and Ayssia Fossorier holding off UH's Tal Talya Zandberg and Gitte Heynemans by a break, 7-5. Another new UH pairing of Madison Kim and Nidhi Surapaneni then came through in the clutch, edging out Ysabel Gonzalez-Rico and Jenna Schlatter in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (4) to secure the doubles point.

In singles, Hawai'i's Surapaneni led off the match cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 5 over UC Irvine's Carter, 6-1, 6-1. Heynemans followed with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Fossorier while UH's Kern downed UCI's Shreya Pavani in straight sets, 6-3, 7-5 to clinch the match. 

The last three singles matches all went the distance with two ending in a third set super-tiebreaker. UH's No. 4 Kim came back after dropping the second set to notch a win over Fowler, 7-5, 3-6, 1-0 (6). Takamura's win also ended in a super tie breaker over Gonzalez-Rico on the No. 1 court, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0(5) and UH's Zandberg, who was playing at No. 2 for the first time this season, regrouped after falling in the first set to seal the sweep with a 4-6, 6-1, 6-4 win over Tsukiji.

The Rainbow Wahine will host their last home match against Cal Lutheran this Wednesday, April 13, 2022 at 2:30 p.m. It will also be Senior Day at the UH Tennis Complex as Hawai'i honors its three seniors--Gitte Heynemans, Nidhi Surapaneni, and Tal Talya Zandberg.
