SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif.--The 75th-ranked University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (8-7, 5-2 Big West) lost its third-consecutive road match at Cal Poly (12-4, 5-0 BWC) on Sunday afternoon. The Mustangs won the doubles point followed by the first three singles matches to clinch. 

Cal Poly cruised to a pair of doubles wins on the No. 2 and 3 courts to capture the point. CP's Delanie Dunkle and Melissa LeMette shut out UH's Ana Vilck and Tal Talya Zandberg, 6-0 at No. 2. At No. 3, Cal Poly's Peyton Dunkle and Laura Bente breezed past UH's Nidhi Surapaneni and Gitte Heynemans, 6-1. In the final doubles match, UH's Satsuki Takamura and Léa Romain were leading 5-2 over Emily Ackerman and Kim Bhunu when the point was won.

The Mustangs' Bente opened singles with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Takamura at No. 2, while Cal Poly's LaMette followed with a three-set win over Vilcek, 6-1, 1-6, 6-0. No. 6 Peyton Dunkle then clinched the match, holding off Madison Kim, 6-4, 6-3. With the match already in hand, the two teams finished the remaing matches. Hawai'i's No. 1 Romain bounced back after dropping the second set to win in three against Bhunu, 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. UH's Heynemans fought hard, but fell short in a third set super tiebreaker against Delanie Dunkle, 6-7 (2), 6-4, 1-0 (6). Hawai'i's Zandberg evened her match in the second set, but eventually won by the retirement of Cal Poly's Ackerman in the third set. 

The Rainbow Wahine conclude their California roadtrip at 17th-ranked USC in Los Angeles on Tuesday, April 5, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. HT.
