IRVINE, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's volleyball team placed four members on the All-Big West teams as selected by the league's six head coaches.
Three of the four were picked to the first team – setter
Jakob Thelle, outside hitter
Spyros Chakas, and middle blocker
Guilherme Voss – while opposite
Dimitrios Mouchlias was named honorable mention.
UH and Long Beach State led all Big West teams with three first-team honorees.
Among UH's four selections, only Thelle had previous all-Big West honors as an honorable mention in 2021. Chakas was named to the all-freshman team a year ago.
Thelle and Chakas are among the most prolific servers in the country. Thelle ranks No. 3 with 51 aces and No. 4 in aces per set at 0.59 while Chakas is 12
th with 42 aces and 16
th in aces per set (0.47). A native of Tonsberg, Norway, Thelle is on the verge of breaking the single-season ace record of 54 held by Mark Presho (1993) and Clay Stanley (2000).
In addition, Thelle ranks 15
th nationally in assists average (9.78 a/s) while directing the nation's 6
th-ranked offense at .337. Chakas is second on the team in kills per set (3.17), while hitting at a .309 clip. The Nea Smyrni, Greece native leads the team with 15 double-figure kill matches and a .956 reception percentage.
Voss anchors the Rainbow Warrior frontline, which leads the country in blocking. The Rio de Janeiro, Brazil native ranks No. 3 nationally with 1.31 blocks per set while also averaging 1.90 kills per set on .500 hitting.
Mouchlias, a native of Soufli, Greece leads the team with a 3.47 kill average, hitting at a .351 clip. The sophomore also has reached double-figure kills in 13 matches, including a career-high 31 against UC Irvine, which were the most by a UH player since 2013.
