SANTA BARBARA, Calif.—The 75th-ranked University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (8-5, 5-1 Big West) fell for the second-straight match to a ranked opponent on the road. On Friday, the Rainbow Wahine battled all match, but came up short at 29th-ranked UC Santa Barbara, 5-2
 
The Gauchos won the doubles point to start the match. UCSB's Marta Gonzalez and Camille Kiss held off UH's Nidhi Surapaneni and Gitte Heynemans, 6-3 on the No. 3 court. The Gauchos' 68th-ranked duo of Amelia Honer and Kira Reuter followed with a 6-3 win on the No. 2 court over UH's Tal Talya Zandberg and Ana Vilcek, 6-3 to capture the point. In the unfinished match, UH's No. 1 Léa Romain and Satsuki Takamura took 60th-ranked Shakhnoza Khatamorva and Elizaveta Volodko to the limit, tied at 6-6 when the point was claimed.
 
In singles, UCSB raced out to win the first three matches to clinch the win. The Gauchos' No. 6 Reuters swept UH's Heynemans, 6-1, 6-2 and UCSB's Honer followed with a 6-0, 6-1 win over Zandberg on Court #4. Filippa BruuSyversen then clinched the win on the No. 5 court with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Madison Kim.
 
Hawai'i kept fighting as UH's No. 2 Takamura  battled back from being a set down, then outlasted Volodko in a second set tie-breaker, and won in a super-tiebreaker, 2-6, 7-6 (3), 1-0 (4). Later, UH's No. 3 Vilcek won a hard fought match over UCSB's Kiss which ended in a third set tiebreaker, 6-4, 1-6, 7-6 (4).
 
The Rainbow Wahine head back up the California coast to play Cal Poly in their second-straight Big West match up on Sunday, April 3 at 9:00 a.m. HT.
