th-ranked University of Hawai'i men's tennis team (8-2, 1-1 Big West) was edged out by Cal Poly, 4-3 on Thursday afternoon at the UH Tennis Complex. The loss snapped UH's eight-match win streak as the Rainbow Warriors begin their final three match homestand of the season.
The Mustangs (10-4, 1-0 BWC) blitzed the 'Bows in doubles. CP's Hendrik Inno and Joe Leather swept UH's
Axel Labrunie and Simao Telo Alves, 6-0 and Noah Berry and Fernando Fonseca followed with a 6-2 win over UH's
Blaz Seric and Killian Maitre, 6-2 to capture the first point on the No. 3 court.
In singles, the Rainbow Warriors tried to rally back. Labrunie led things off, breezing past CP's Inno, 6-0, 6-2 to tie the match at 1-1. The 'Bows then took a 2-1 lead in the match after No. 6 Killian Maitre came back after dropping the first set to defeat Gary Vardanyan in three sets, 0-6, 6-2, 6-2. The Mustangs knotted the score at 2-2 after Colter Smith held off UH's
Karl Collins in straight-sets, 6-2, 7-5 on the No. 3 court.
Cal Poly then took the lead for good as Leather defeated UH's Seric in three, 6-0,3-6, 6-1. The Mustangs then clinched the match as Cal Poly's Berry came back after dropping the first set to triumph over 20
