HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i head football coach
Timmy Chang completed his full-time coaching staff with the addition of receivers coach
Jared Ursua. In addition, Chang has brought on board his former Rainbow Warrior teammate
Derek Faavi as director of player development.
With the addition of Ursua, the full-time staff includes –

Jared Ursua, Wide Receivers
Spent the past three seasons as wide receivers coach at Weber State…in his three seasons, helped WSU win two Big Sky Championships, including a semifinal appearance in 2019…helped Weber State finish in the Top 10 nationally in total offense in 2019 and spring 2021…prior to Weber State, coached four seasons at his alma mater, Southern Utah…also served as co-recruiting coordinator…helped SUU to a pair of Big Sky titles in 2015 and 2017…played at SUU from 2008-11 as a wide receiver and kick returner…a native of Kailua-Kona, Hawai'i…prepped at Kealakehe High School…brother John was a three-year letterman and all-conference receiver for the Rainbow Warriors, who is currently on the Seattle Seahawks roster.

Derek Faavi, Director of Player Development
Spent the past two years as director of operations for Raising Champions LLC, a private quarterback training company…prior to that, coached at Adams State for four years (2016-19), serving as offensive coordinator and offensive line coach…earned his master's degree from Adams State…spent six years in Japan (2010-16), coaching at Nojima Sagamihara Rise organization in the Japan X-League as offensive line coach and recruiter…helped the club win the X2 championship in 2010 as the offensive line allowed only two sacks all season…in his final two years in Japan, also coached at Keio University as offensive line coach…began his coaching career at Campbell High School in 'Ewa Beach, O'ahu for two seasons…played collegiately at Hawai'i from 2002-05 and made 37 career starts at center…received the team's Alec Waterhouse Most Valuable Player as a senior in 2005.
