Water Polo Routs CSUN 15-5 to Split Weekend Games

HONOLULU- The University of Hawai'i women's water polo team secured their second conference win 15-5 over CSUN Saturday night at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex.

The Rainbow Wahine (11-5, 2-0) led in a wire-to-wire victory. The Matadors (8-10, 0-4) have lost ten straight to UH.

In the first half, it was all UH as six different players scored goals. Senior attacker Elyse Lemay-Lavoie got things started as she netted the match's first goal and would score three in the first half alone. Sophomore utility Lot Stertefeld was one of six players to achieve multiple goals in the match, both coming in the first half helping take a 9-2 lead at the break.

In the second portion of the match, UH kept their foot on the gas as freshman utility Jordan Wedderburn finished her hattrick in the third quarter. Sophomore attacker Alba Bonamusa Boix scored the last goal for UH, extending the victory to double figures.

Sophomore goalie Bridget Layburn and senior Molly DiLalla split time in goal, where they each recorded five saves en route to the team victory.

The Rainbow Wahine returns Friday, Mar. 25, to the Duke. The first sprint is scheduled for 6:00 pm HT.
