Game Recap: Women's Water Polo |

Water Polo Dominates UCSB 16-5 to Remain Unbeaten in Conference Play

HONOLULU-  The University of Hawai'i women's water polo team dominated the UC Santa Barbara Gauchos 16-5 in their second conference game at the Duke.

The Rainbow Wahine (12-5, 3-0) continue to own the Gauchos (11-9, 1-2) as they move to 11-0 all-time against them at DKAC.

In the first quarter, UH battled with UCSB as junior attacker Olivia Kistler wrote in the first tally on the scoresheet. Followed up by sophomore attackers Alba Bonamusa Boix and Lucia Gomez de la Puente, the 'Bows took the lead 3-2 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter stirred excitement in the stands as sophomore goalie Bridget Layburn, alongside the Rainbow Wahine defense, kept the Gauchos to three goals in half. With 3:30 on the clock, Bonamusa Boix ignited a stream of nine unanswered goals for the Rainbow Wahine that strung into the fourth quarter.

Bonamusa Boix finished her four-goal night out of the half while freshman utility Morgan McDowall was just getting started as she sent an impressive backhand shot into the net. After her first goal, she scored three straight to put the 'Bows up 12-3.

With the game coming to a close, senior Ann Inoue lobbed one over the keeper,  putting the game on ice. The sudden heavy rainfall didn't stop senior goalie Molly DiLalla from keeping the net on lock from the Gauchos as UH won 16-5

Bonuamsa Boix and McDowall paced all scorers with four goals each. Layburn and DiLalla held firm in the net as they combined for seven saves.

The Rainbow Wahine will be back in action at the Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex next Friday, April 1, with the first sprint slated at 7:00 p.m. Stick around after the game as we celebrate Senior Night.
