-12)HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i softball team (5-7, 0-0 Big West) fell to California, 5-0 on Day 2 of the Bank of Hawai'i Rainbow Wahine Classic. The Golden Bears erupted for a combined four runs in the sixth and seventh inning to pull away late on Thursday night at the Rainbow Wahine Softball Stadium.

UH starter Chloe Borges kept things close through the first six innings. She fired a complete game in the loss, allowing five runs on nine hits with two walks and four strikeouts.

The Golden Bears got one run in the second on a solo shot over the leftfield fence by Kacey Zobac.

In the third, UH tried to rally. Mya'Liah Bethea was plunked with one out and Nawai Kaupe hit a shot that ricocheted off the pitcher for an infield single, putting runners at the corners. Izabella Martinez came up and battled at the plate but fell victim as Cal starter Sona Halajian's fifth strikeout.

Cal added a run on an RBI double down the leftfield line by Sophie Medellin to drive in Zobac for a 2-0 lead in the sixth. Then the Golden Bears' Halajian hit a three-run homer to center to extend their lead to 5-0.

California's starter Halajian earned the complete-game shutout. She gave up five hits with no walks and nine strikeouts.
