HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i softball team (5-8, 0-0 Big West) fell to No. 1-ranked Oklahoma, 11-0 in six innings on Day 3 of the Bank of Hawaii Rainbow Wahine Classic in front of a "sold out" capacity crowd of 1,200. Friday night was the first sellout crowd since senior night of 2013.
Oklahoma opened the game scoring one run in the first inning on an RBI-double to the rightfield wall by Jocelyn Alo. Grace Lyons scored all the way from first. But on the play, a nice throw from rightfielder
Cira Bartolotti to third baseman Rachel "Bueller" Sabourin gunned down Alo trying to stretch it to a triple.
In the bottom of the second, UH tried to rally. Lead-off hitter,
Nawai Kaupe was plunked to start the home half of the first. After a strikeout,
Maya Nakamura drilled a double to the left-centerfield gap to move Kaupe to second. But Oklahoma was able to strike out the next two batters to end inning.
The Sooner added four runs in the third. Lynnsie Elam led off with a solo shot to left. Later, Rylie Boone scored on a sac bunt fielder's choice squeeze and two runs came in on a fielding error.
In the sixth, Oklahoma erupted for six runs—highlighted by Alo's NCAA career run home run breaking 96
th home run. It was a three-run homer hit to centerfield.
In her first start of the season, Hawai'i starter
