Davies Ignites Rainbow Wahine to 57-50 Victory Over UC Davis

HONOLULU – Coming off head coach Laura Beeman's 150th win against CSUN, the University of Hawai'i had a 57-50 come from behind win over defending Big West Conference champions, UC Davis Thursday night inside SimpliFi Arena at Stan Sheriff Center.

The Rainbow Wahine (9-8, 5-2) found their spark late on a buzzer-beater three-pointer to end the third quarter by sophomore guard Olivia Davies to bring the score within four at 41-37. Following the shot, the 'Bows continued with a 16-2 run propelling them to the lead and an eventual win.

The first half was highlighted by shooting woes and the inability to grab rebounds as UH went 9-for-27 from the floor and were outrebounded by the Aggies 25 to 14, leading to a seven-point deficit at the half.

The Aggies (9-9, 3-5) extended their lead to 13 in the third but the 'Bows found a couple of buckets and chipped the lead down to seven. With six seconds left on the clock in the third, Davies banked home a three-pointer as time expired, giving the Wahine momentum.

Graduate forward Amy Atwell found her touch, draining a three, and tying the game at 41-41 early in the final frame. Atwell scored 11 of her 14 total points in the fourth quarter to help put the game out of reach.

On a night featuring the top two scorers in the conference with Atwell and Cierra Hall, Davies led the way with 17 points tying a career-high and had a career-high 10 from the charity stripe. Graduate forward Kallin Spiller set a new career mark with 12 rebounds, and as a team recorded a season-low in turnovers with nine.

The 'Bows returns Saturday night. Tip-off is slated for 6:00 p.m. HT.
