SAN DIEGO, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i baseball team dropped their first game in the Tony Gwynn Legacy 7-1 against San Diego State Friday night.
The Rainbow Warriors (2-3) played their first game against the Aztecs in 16 years. An SDSU (2-3) five-run sixth inning was enough to propel them to their second win of the season.
SDSU struck first in the third inning with a single into left field, scoring the game's first run. The Aztecs tacked on a second run in the fourth taking a 2-0 lead.
The 'Bows got on the board in the fifth when junior catcher
Dallas Duarte drove in sophomore second baseman
Stone Miyao, who reached base on an error earlier in the inning.
San Diego broke the game open in the fifth, garnering five support runs, taking a 7-1 lead down the stretch.
UH managed to load the bases in the top of the ninth but could not push any across.
Junior pitcher
Cade Halemanu in his second outing went five innings, had seven strikeouts, and had four earned runs.
Freshman right fielder
Matt Wong and Duarte led the 'Bows with two hits each. Junior left fielder
Scotty Scott extended his on base streak with a hit in the sixth inning.
The Rainbow Warriors face off against UNLV Saturday at 11:00 A.M. HT.
