Hawai‘i Drops Game Two of Series 4-2 to Washington State

HONOLULU – The University of Hawai'i baseball team dropped the second game of the series to Washington State, 4-2 Saturday night at Les Murakami Stadium.

The Rainbow Warriors (0-2) were in another low-scoring affair as coach Rich Hill still looks for his first win at the program's helm. The Cougars (2-0) have a chance to clinch their first series win over the 'Bows since 1972.

After falling behind 2-0 in the first two innings, junior outfielder Matt Wong doubled to right field. Wong found his way to third with two out before being balked home for the 'Bows first run of the contest.

WSU picked up another run in the top of the fifth, extending their lead 3-1.

In the bottom of the sixth inning, junior outfielder, Scotty Scott, singled to left field before advancing to second on a passed ball and third on a subsequent wild pitch. Itching to score, he got the opportunity on another wild pitch and crossed the plate for the second run of the night.

Washington snagged an insurance run in the eighth, leaving it to the final at-bats to get it done for the Warriors.

In the bottom of the ninth, the 'Bows could not push any runs across and left a man stranded at third.

In his debut, graduate pitcher Andy Archer went 4 2/3 innings, gave up three runs, including one unearned, and struck out seven.

Scotty Scott was hit twice, walked, and recorded a hit. Scott has reached base in all eight at bats so far this season.

First pitch of game three is scheduled to begin at 1:05 p.m. HT on Sunday, with Cameron Hagan facing off against McKabe Cottrell.
