Hawai‘i Battling After Day 3 of the MPSF Championships

MONTEREY PARK, CALIF.- The University of Hawai'i swim and dive team concluded the third day of the MPSF Championships, in the same position as they started, with the women's team sitting in second place and the men's team at third place overall.
 
With one day remaining of four, the Rainbow Wahine have wracked up 470 points and trail UC San Diego by 23 points with a chance at a sixth straight title on the final day. The Rainbow Warriors crossed the 400 point threshold with a score of 412.50. BYU has a commanding lead on the men's side at 502. 
 
Senior Daphne Wils turned in a stellar performance on the diving side, capturing first place in the women's one-meter event for the third straight time in her career. A day earlier, she was bested by Kennedy Cribbs of BYU in the three-meter, but on Friday, Wils score of 323.65, surpassing Cribbs by the narrowest margin of half a point. 
 
Adding to the Wahines' point total was a first-place finish by freshman Kathryn Ivanov in the 100 breast with a finishing time of 1:01.74. Ivanov was joined by senior Emma Frey, junior Anna Friedrich, and graduate Anna Kotonen in the 400 medley relay for a second-place finish at 3:39.01. Frey added to her day with a second-place finish in the 100 back at 53.47. 
 
The reigning MPSF Diver of the Year returned to form as Max Burman captured first place in the three-meter dive with a score of 403.75, blowing past all scores in the event. Adding to the Warriors' efforts were junior Justin Lisoway and sophomore Sean Hogan. The duo picked up second-place finishes as Lisoway touched the wall at 53.21 in the 100 breast, and Hogan finished at 47.50 in the 100 back. 
 
The final day of competition will be on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. PT with the prelims, followed by the championship round at 6:30 p.m. PT.
