HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – In their second day of action a pair of University of Hawai'I duos were turned back in their quest to take a pairs title at the inaugural AVCA Fall Collegiate Beach Championship at John Hunt Park in Alabama.
After going undefeated in three pool play matches on Friday, the pair of
Kylin Loker and
Jaime Santer earned a bye in the 48-team Champions Bracket. They advanced to the round of 16 with a straight set win over Florida Atlantic's Jillienne Cangelosi and Christine Jarman. However, Washington's Chloe Loreen and Natalie Robinson outlasted the UH pair 17-21, 21-16, 15-13, to earn a spot in the tournament quarterfinals.
Meanwhile, the pair of
Kaylee Glagau and
Brooke Van Sickle were victim of a first-round upset as the duo of a Kiley Lewis and Giuliana Poletti-Corrales of Texas A&M-Corpus Christi swept the UH tandem 24-22, 21-16.
Despite being knocked out of championship contention, Glagau and Van Sickle continued play on Saturday in the "33
rd Bracket" and picked up a pair of wins over Cal and Stetson. They will continue play on Sunday at 12 p.m. CT/7 a.m. HT against UAB and need two wins to capture that consolation bracket.
Meanwhile, Santer and Loker will also continue play in the "9
th Bracket" where they will take on Grand Canyon on at 11 a.m. CT/6 a.m. HT. The UH pairs have gone a combined 8-3 so far on the weekend.
