HONOLULU – For the second time this season, Laticia Transom has earned MPSF Female Athlete of the Week honors after another incredible weekend in the pool at the SMU Invitational.
The fifth-year transfer was a part of two school record-setting freestyle relay teams and posted five new program top-10 times while reaching the NCAA B cut standard in five events. Transom has now earned conference athlete of the week honors after each of her first two meets as a Rainbow Wahine.
On day one, Transom helped the Wahine set a school record in the 200 Freestyle Relay at 1:29.63, swimming the second leg in a blistering 21.54 to help break the nine-year old UH record. Later that day she swam a 53.22 in the 100 Fly for the third-fastest time in program history and an NCAA B cut, before posting a 22.47 in the 50 Free to put her in a tie for the third-fastest in UH history in the event.
Transom capped off the opening day of the meet by opening the 400 Medley Relay with a 52.74 in the 100 Back, giving her an NCAA B cut and the second-fastest time in program history. She continued her strong weekend on day two, posting the No. 2 time in school history in the 200 Free prelims with a 1:44.89, before going on to win the event with a 1:45.49 in the finals.
She finished off the weekend with another school record in a relay and another top 10, first swimming the third-fastest time in school history in the 100 Free at 48.28 to win the event by nearly a full second. Transom then finished the meet by helping the Rainbow Wahine set another freestyle relay record, this time with a 3:16.45 in the 400 Free Relay to knock nearly two whole seconds off the old mark, swimming the second leg in 47.31. The Wahine also set the pool record at SMU in the 400 Free Relay.
Through just two events as a Rainbow Wahine, Transom owns five top-three marks in program history (50, 100, 200 Free, 100 Fly, 100 Back) with NCAA B cuts in each of those events. She also owns the top times in the MPSF in each of those five events.
