HONOLULU – Five University of Hawai'i football players were selected to the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District Team. The five Rainbow Warriors are now eligible for Academic All-America honors.
This year marks the first time that all student-athletes who meet the requirements were named to the all-district team. In order to be eligible, a student-athlete must be a starter or important reserve with at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale) at his current institution.
UH's five honorees are the most in a single-season in program history. Offensive lineman
Eliki Tanuvasa is a repeat honoree, having been named to the all-district team last season.
Kyler Halvorsen, Sophomore
- Psychology major
- Team's kickoff specialist
- Has 36 touchbacks in 50 kickoff attempts for a 72.0 touchback percentage that ranks No. 15 nationally
- Academic all-Mountain West and MW Scholar-Athlete in 2021
Noa Kamana, Senior
- Grad student who earned his bachelor's degree in Natural Resources and Environmental Management
- Backup defensive back and special teams player who made three starts at safety
- Has 19 tackles, including one for loss and one pass breakup
- Three-time academic all-Mountain West and two-time MW Scholar-Athlete
Fo'i Shaw, Senior
- Sociology major
- Backup defensive tackle who has appeared in all 12 games
- Has nine tackles on the year
- Three-time academic all-Mountain West and two-time MW Scholar-Athlete
Eliki Tanuvasa, Senior
- Grad student who earned his bachelor's degree in communication
- Two-time Academic All-District
- Started seven games at center and team's nominee for the Burlsworth Trophy
- Two-time academic all-Mountain West and two-time MW Scholar-Athlete
Logan Taylor, Senior
- Interdisciplinary Studies major
- Started the last five games and totaled 64 combined tackles (38 solo) with five double-digit tackle games
- First UH player to record double-digit tackles in five straight games since Jahlani Tavai in 2017
- Two-time MW Scholar-Athlete
