Swim & Dive Set For Big Weekend at SMU Invitational

HONOLULU – The Hawai'i swimming and diving program continues its season when it hits the road to take on a strong field of schools at the SMU Invitational, Thursday through Saturday.

The Rainbow Warriors and Wahine are coming off of strong performances at the season-opening USC Invitational in October, as the Wahine turned in six program top-10 times and the men put up three NCAA Zone E diving standards. Additionally, the Wahine made a trio of NCAA B cut times in the pool while hitting one NCAA Zone E diving standard.
 
Laticia Transom led the way for the Rainbow Wahine over the opening weekend, turning in three program top-10 times on the way to earning MPSF Female Athlete of the Week recognition. Transom turned in the fourth-fastest time in the 200 free, clocking a 1:46.51 to meet the NCAA B standard. She also turned in a NCAA B cut times in the 100 and 50 free, posting a 49.02 in the 100 for the fifth-fastest time in school history, and a 22.65 in the 50 free, good for the seventh-best in UH history.
 
A pair of Wahine swimmers cracked the UH top 10 in the 200 breaststroke, as Mandolin Nguyen swam the sixth-fastest time at 2:14.86 while Kathyrn Ivanov clocked a 2:16.26 to check in at No. 10 in school history. Dorottya Dobos recorded the 10th-fastest time in program history in the 100 back, coming in with a time of 54.98.
 
On the men's side, Juan Gonzalez paced the dive squad on the opening weekend of competition at Pepperdine by meeting NCAA Zone E standards in 1-meter and 3-meter diving. Gonzalez turned in a mark of 332.30 in the 1-meter competition and 343.20 in the 3-meter competition.
