KINGS POINT, N.Y. – The University of Hawai'i coed sailors competed in its first team regatta of the 2022-23 season, placing 16
th at the Atlantic Coast Championships off the waters of Long Island.
A week after Rainbow Wahine competed in the women's ACC regatta in New England, the coed squad headed their way East, this time to New York. The Rainbow sailors were greeted with favorable winds as 30 races were completed over the weekend – 15 in each the A and B divisions. Harvard (140 points) edged out rival Yale (144) to take the regatta. UH (390) and UC Santa Barbara – which finished 17th – were the only West coast schools in the field of 18 teams.
Bastien Rasse served as skipper in the A division with
Kelsie Grant,
Devon Stapleton, and
Chloe Long on crew. They finished with 192 points and enjoyed their best races in second to last of the weekend when they finished fifth.
Owen Lahr and
Frances Tarpey-Schwed sailed in the B division and totaled 198 points with a pair of sixth-place fnishes among its 15 races.
Up next for the Rainbow sailors is the PCCSC Match Racing Championship, Oct. 15-16, in Redwood City, Calif.
