LAHAINA, Maui – University of Hawai'i sophomore Atsuya Oishi carded a 3-under 68 in the first round of the Kā'anapali Classic Collegiate Invitational Friday at the Royal Kā'anapali Golf Course.
The Hiroshima, Japan native posted one eagle and three birdies on his round to pace the Rainbow Warriors, who shot even par 284 on the day and is tied for 12
th place among the 20 team field. Oishi is tied for 16
th place, four strokes off the lead held by Clemson's Andrew Swanson and Oklahoma's Drew Goodman.
Clemson (267) leads the team standings by one stroke over 11
th-ranked Oklahoma (268) followed by East Tennessee State (269), North Florida (273), and Kansas and Ole Miss (275).
Sophomore Blaze Akana shot even par 71 and is tied for 49
th place. Sophomore Tyler Ogawa is one stroke back and tied for 59
th while freshman Josh Hayashida and grad transfer Remington Hirano shot 73 and are tied for 78
th place.
Four other Warriors are competing as individuals – sophomore Isaiah Kanno (71, t-38
th), sophomore Pierce Braun (72, t-59
th), freshman James Whitworth (77, t-111
th), and sophomore Garrett Takeuchi (79, t-118
th).
The tournament continues on Saturday with an 8:00 a.m. shotgun start.
