Cross Country Back on the Road for the Bronco Invitational

HONOLULU—The season for the University of Hawai'i cross country team is beginning to wrap up with the final meet before The Big West Championships this weekend in Sunnyvale, California, for the Bronco Invitational.

Since Tim Boyce was named the head coach of cross country in 2014, the Rainbow Wahine have made it a point to travel to the Santa Clara University-hosted event every season to compete in the 6k before the conference championships. In the previous eight appearances, the highest finish for the 'Bows in the event was in 2014, placing fifth overall. Two years later, Camille Campos set the UH record in the 6k with a time of 20:03.4.

Heading into Saturday's meet, the 'Bows have been hitting their stride after finishing second overall in the Charles Bowles Invitational on Oct. 1. Senior Caelan Miller set the pace for UH in the event and the other two prior events in 2022. The group's previous 6k event came in the UC Riverside Invitational on Sept. 17, where Miller finished with a time of 21:41.4, slotting her at No. 7 all-time in the UH record book.

"We've had very solid training since our last meet and look forward to continued team improvement as we build towards The Big West Championships," said Boyce. "The course provides a great opportunity for runners to achieve fast times."

The meet is set to start at 9:30 a.m. PT, following the men's meet at 8:45 a.m. PT.
