HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team opens the new year hosting the 2022 Weinman Foundation Invitational from Jan 6-9. Coming to compete in the annual event is California (who finished 2021 ranked No. 21), CSUN, and Washington State. All matches will be played at the UH Tennis Complex.

For the health and safety of all involved, fans will not be allowed at the UH Tennis Complex for the tournament.

Last season, the UH got back into the groove with a sixteen game schedule following the shortened 2019-2020 season. Entering the 2021 Big West Conference Championships in Irvine, Calif., the 'Bows reached the semifinals after defeating UC Davis, 4-1, taking five out of six singles points. The team then fell to top-seeded UC Santa Barbara, 4-0, ending the season with a 7-8 overall and a 4-4 in conference record.
Satsuki Takamura leads five UH returnees into the new season. Last year, she was second on the team in singles wins, recording a 6-8 overall record while playing at No. 2 and No. 3, and she was tied for the most doubles wins partnered with Dolakova at 7-7.

The Rainbow Wahine will have to replace four mainstays of the program with the graduation of Nikola Dolakova, Bojana Markovic, Michelle Pits, and the most decorated player in UH history, Petra Melounova. But the 'Bows have reloaded with lots of fire power coming from six newcomers--including three senior transfers. Gitte Heynemans and Tal Talya Zandberg both transferred from Arizona while Nidhi Surapaneni comes to UH after a four-year career at North Texas.
