HONOLULU--The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team opens the 2022 season by hosting the Hawai'i Invitational from Thursday, Jan. 6 - Saturday, Jan. 8 at the UH Tennis Complex. Both California ang BYU (who finished 2021 ranked at No. 56) will be competing in the three-day tournament. Thursday's matches will begin at 9:00 a.m., while Friday and Saturday's matches will begin at 2:30 p.m.
For the health and safety of all involved,
fans will not be allowed at the UH Tennis Complex, for the tournament.
Hawai'i returns four letterwinners--Simão Telo Alves,
Andre Ilagan,
Axel Labrunie, and
Blaz Seric--all of whom played in every UH match in 2021. All four recorded at least four singles wins apiece. Last season, the Rainbow Warriors posted a 5-4 overall record. This season, the 'Bows welcome in four transfers into the UH 'ohana.
Kilian Maitre made the cross-town transfer from Hawai'i Pacific to Manoa. He spent last year with the Sharks and has four years of eligibility left.
Guillaume Tattevin is an incoming sophomore after spending a pair of seasons at Lander University (Greenwood, S.C.). And with Fresno State eliminating their storied men's tennis program, two former Bulldogs have transferred to become Rainbow Warriors, sophomore
Cody Castro and freshman
Karl Collins.
