Box Score LAS VEGAS, Nev.—The University of Hawai'i men's tennis team recorded its first sweep of the season, blanking New Mexico State, 4-0. The win at UNLV's Fertitta Tennis Complex concluded the Rainbow Warriors' first roadtrip of 2022 on Sunday morning.
For the first time in dual match play this year, the 'Bows started the match by capturing the doubles point. UH's No. 1 duo of
Andre Ilagan and
Karl Collins cruised past NMSU's Louis Menard and Jordy Visser, 6-2 to start the day. On the No. 3 court, Hawai'i's
Blaz Seric and Killian Maitre doubled up on Martin Simecek and Ryan Ford, 6-3 secured the first point.
In singles, the bottom of the line-up came through with straight-sets wins to seal the sweep.
Guillaume Tattevin gave UH a 2-0 lead by defeating Gijs Akkermans on the No. 5 court, 6-2, 6-4. UH's Labrunie notched his first dual match singles win of the season by sailing past the Aggies' Visser in straight sets at No. 4, 6-2, 6-2. UH's No. 6 Maitre then clinched the win with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Itay Feigin.
"We had a great team effort overall today, led by a strong performance in doubles to give us good momentum into singles," said head coach Jöel Kusnierz. "We are getting better every match. This was a perfect way to end a successful tournament."
The Rainbow Warriors are back in action on Friday, Feb. 11 against Concordia Irvine. First serve is slated for 3:00 p.m. at the UH Tennis Complex.
