LAS VEGAS, NEV.—The University of Hawai'i swimming and diving squad returned to action for the first time as a team since November 20th with a double dual meet against UNLV and Wyoming Friday evening at the Jim Reitz Pool inside of Buchanan Natatorium.
Both the men's and women's teams split against the Runnin' Rebels and Cowboys, with UH taking the two matchups with Wyoming. The Rainbow Warriors scored a narrow victory of 77.00-71.00, while the Rainbow Wahine recorded a win with the same slime margin of 76.00-70.00. The two losses to UNLV were 93.00-54.00 for the men and 93-51.00 for the women.
The women's team saw their share of highlights on the day, beginning with the 400 medley relay where the team of graduate
Anna Kotonen, senior
Emma Frey, junior
Anna Friedrich, and freshman
Kathryn Ivanov scored a first-place finish. The foursome finished with a time of 3:40.33, beating UNLV by two seconds. The time was also a season-best by the Rainbow Wahine in the event.
The day's success continued for Ivanov as she tallied another first-place finish, touching the wall at 1:02.28 in the 100 breast, barely escaping Kotonen at 1:02.50.
The men's team mirrored the same results with a one, two finish in the same event. Junior
Justin Lisoway scored a time of 54.38 for a first-place finish, while freshman teammate
Tomer Goldfaden registered a 54.75.
Lisoway and Goldfaden were joined by senior
Ian Venter and junior
Tim Masten for a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay, trailing by just two seconds from the first place spot with a time of 3:19.76.
UH will be back in action for the second day of the event on Saturday, beginning at 10 a.m. PT.
