Ian Shoemaker, Offensive Coordinator/Quarterbacks
Has been coaching college football for the past 25 years, honing an offensive scheme that has lit up scoreboards in recent years…comes to UH from Eastern Washington where he guided one of the most prolific offenses in all of FCS football the last three seasons…through the first nine games of 2021, Shoemaker's offense paced all FCS teams in scoring at 48 points per game….in 2020, EWU ranked among the nation's best in scoring (2nd), total offense (3rd) and passing (5th)….in 2019, the Eagles led FCS in total offense for the third time in school history with an average of 524.8 yards per game…mentored All-American quarterback Eric Barriere, who was a finalist for the Walter Payton Award, given to the top player in FCS football…prior to EWU, he was the head coach for Division II Central Washington where he racked up a 38-16 mark in five seasons…enjoyed a 19-4 mark in his final two years as the Wildcats won back-to-back conference titles in 2017 and '18….also served as an offensive coordinator and assistant coach throughout the Midwest with stops at schools in Minnesota, South Dakota, Kansas and Ohio.

Chang on Shoemaker: "Ian has been one of the top offensive coordinators in the FCS. His offense last year was #1 in total offense and he coached the Payton Award winner at quarterback. His philosophy on offense with my background in the Run and Shoot and Air Raid should make for an aggressive ground game with a vertical passing attack."

Thomas Sheffield, Associate Head Coach/Special Teams Coordinator
Served as the special teams coordinator the last two seasons at Nevada, where he coached alongside Chang…molded Nevada into a top-tier special teams unit during his stay…the Wolf Pack blocked a combined six kicks (field goals and punts) during his tenure…Nevada also ranked ninth nationally in net punting in 2020 and 17th in the punt returns in 2021…coached one of the top young kickers in the nation in Brandon Talton, a two-time all-Mountain West selection… prior to Nevada, was at Arkansas Pine-Bluff, where he enjoyed a successful three-year stint as special teams coordinator, tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator…at APB, mentored punter Jamie Gillan who went on to earn a spot on NFL All-Rookie Team for the Cleveland Browns…started his career as a quality control assistant Sam Houston State, helping his alma mater to an appearance in the 2011 FCS National Championship game…also coached with North Texas and at the University of Mary Hardin Baylor, where his team twice advanced to the Division III national semifinals.

Chang on Sheffield: "Coach Sheffield and I believe we can win games by our special teams play. His vision for the Ride or Die culture is one that inspires, ignites, and exemplifies what we want to be as a team. I can't wait to get started."

Matt Chon, Chief of Staff/Director of Operations
Worked with Chang at Nevada where he served as a recruiting assistant during the 2021 season…prior to Nevada, worked with the football program at his alma mater, the University of La Verne in Southern California…was a coaching intern, assisting with the wide receivers and also working in equipment operations…played college football for both La Verne and American River College in Sacramento.

Chang on Chon: "One of the best stories in the college football profession, Matt Chon is a grinder. This young stud believes in my vision and will help this program reach its full potential. I couldn't imagine not having him by my side."
