HONOLULU—The University of Hawai'i women's tennis team (0-1) fell to Washington (1-0), 6-1 in both teams' first dual match of the season on Saturday at the UH Tennis Complex. Hawai'i has now opened the season with matches against three Pac-12 teams—California, Washington, and Washington State.
 
In doubles, the Huskies' No. 1 duo of Vanessa Wong and Hikaru Sato defeated Hawai'i's 'Ana Vilcek and Lea Romain, 6-2. UW then captured the first point of the match with Zoey Weil and Kelly Leung knocking off UH's Avery Williams and Anna Kern, 6-2.
 
Hawai'i's only win on the day came on the No. 3 singles court with UH's Vilcek pulling away from UW's Nika Zupancic. Vilcek held off Zupancic by a break in the first set, then overwhelmed her opponent in the second for the straight-set win, 6-4, 6-0. UH's Kern took the first set against UW's Leung, but then dropped the next two sets to fall in three, 4-6, 6-1, 6-2. UH's Romain played well and battled UW's Sarah-Maude Fortin, but came up just short by a break in both sets, 7-5, 7-5.
 
Hawai'I will next host the Rainbow Wahine Spring Invitational from Feb. 3 – Feb. 4.
