HONOLULU – University of Hawai'i setter
Jakob Thelle was named the AVCA National and Big West Conference Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Rainbow Warriors to a pair of season-opening wins over Loyola-Chicago.
The junior from Tonsberg, Norway tallied 72 total assists (10.29 per set) and led Hawai'i to a team hitting percentage of .367 in the two matches. He had a career-high six aces and tied a career-high with four blocks in the season opener. Thelle finished the series with 10 digs, nine aces, five blocks and five kills on the weekend.
The awards are Thelle's first as a Rainbow Warrior. It also marks the first time a UH setter has earned National Player of the Week honors.
In addition, Thelle was selected as Off the Block's National Setter of the Week while middle blocker
Guilherme Voss was the Middle Attacker of the Week.
