FRESNO, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team completed the Nick Watney Invitational in ninth place following Tuesday's final round at the San Joaquin Country Club.
The Rainbow Warriors carded a final round 302 for an 887 total. Cal State Fullerton took the team title with an 845 total while Sacramento State's Ethan Davidson captured medalist honors at 7-under par.
UH's top finisher was junior
AJ Teraoka, who tied for 27
th place after a final round 79 for a 7-over 220 total. The Honolulu native entered the round in a tie for 11
th but dropped out of contention after beginning his round 7-over par after six holes. Senior
Kanata Irei was two strokes behind Teraoka after a 3-over 74 put him at 9-over 222 for the tournament and a tie for 36
th place.
Among the seven Big West Conference schools in the 14-team field, UH finished in the middle of pack behind CSUF, CSUN (4
th, 860), UC Irvine (6
th, 872) and ahead of UC San Diego (12
th, 899), UC Santa Barbara (13
th, 904), and UC Riverside (14
th, 925).
Also competing for UH were
Garrett Takeuchi (226, t-51
st),
Isaiah Kanno (229, t-60
th), and
Ratio Visuttipinate (235, t-76
th). Takeuchi posted the team's low round of the day at 1-over 72.
Next up for the Rainbow Warriors is the Bill Cullum Invitational, Oct. 11-12 in Northridge, Calif.
