RIVERSIDE, Calif. − Following its meet win at the Big West Invitational, the University of Hawai'i cross country team showed up to the UC Riverside Invitational on Saturday morning ready to put in their best efforts, placing 15th overall. For the second straight meet, junior Sophia Morgan led the Rainbow Wahine, finishing 45th overall.
"I am pleased with the race this morning," head coach Tim Boyce said. "Super efforts across the board with big breakouts by our top three. It was an excellent 6k so early in the season. Sophia is now our eighth fastest performer at the distance in school history. We will build on today's performances at upcoming meets. A lot to build on!"
Morgan led the 'Bows, crossing the 6k finish line first for the with a mark of 21 minutes 44.2 seconds for 45th place.
Not long after Morgan, came redshirt junior Olivia Hill finishing second, accumulating a time of 21:53.4, for 56th place and freshman Sam North crossing at 22:29.2 in 86th place.
Leading the meet was California Baptist University, followed by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps as runner up, and Arizona taking third place.
Overall, UH finished the meet with placing 15th overall, averaging a time of 22:29.
The 'Bows will now take a two week break, before competing in the 46th Charles Bowles Invitational in Salem, Ore. Saturday, October 2nd.
