LA QUINTA, Calif. – The University of Hawai'i men's golf team sits in seventh place after the first round of the Big West Championships Sunday at the La Quinta Country Club.
Senior
Justin Ngan had a solid round of 2-under par going to the par-4 18
th hole until an unfavorable ruling led to a triple bogey 7. The senior from Wailuku, Maui, who recorded two eagles on the day, finished at 1-over 73 and is tied for sixth in the 45-player field.
UC Davis' Lucas Carper has the individual lead at 2-under 70 while a trio of Long Beach State golfers are one shot back at 1-under 71.
LBSU has the team lead at 1-under 287 followed by Cal Poly and UC Davis (296), UC Santa Barbara (298), Cal State Fullerton (300), CSUN (302), UH (303), UC Irvine (311), and UC Riverside (331).

Justin Arcano is tied for 15
th place at 3-over 75; senior
Cole Yoshida is tied for 25
th at 77, and sophomore
Kotaro Murata is tied for 30
th at 78. Senior
Kanata Irei rounds out the UH contingent at 84 and is tied for 41
st.
The tournament continues with Round 2 on Monday.
